Fileteado, the unique Porteño decorative art style, is now Cultural Heritage of the Humanity
The Fileteado, a decorative style born in Buenos Aires at the same time than the Tango, was awarded by Unesco as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Originally born to decorate horse carriages, it was evolving with time, jumping to buses, taxis, glass stores, guitars and many other objects, as also is part of Tattoo and Body painting.
Today is strongly connected with Tango and TANGO SHOWS and is the essential aesthetic of them.
Acanthus leaves, dragoons, little birds, flowers, and golden bars are the typical elements of Fileteado. This decorative art, born in Buenos Aires thanks to the diverse immigration received, nurtures from American flora, British and Gipsy carriage decorative traditions, French and Spanish bass reliefs, and Italian colors. Most of the artists were Italian or Polish or second generation.
The Fileteado follows strict cannons established not by whim, but an organic harmony, which even today, with a simple appreciation can tell anybody the quality of the job done. Any good Tango Show will “dress” its stage and communication items with a good Fileteado style.
